1 Watt Serial SCADA Radio Data Modem System - 900 MHz Long Range, High Speed Encrypted Data Links

License Free High Power Serial Radio - Links Controllers, PLCs, RTUs, and Industrial Wireless Telemetry Systems with serial data connections

Model: DIN-S-HP

Build secure industrial wireless data links between RTUs, PLCs, I/O Expanders, controllers and sensors without cable over distances of up to 40 miles or over highly obstructed shorter links using Synetcom's 1 Watt Serial SCADA Radio Modem.  Create RTU or PLC based SCADA systems that are networked using wireless serial RS485 data multidrop connections.

The DIN-S-HP serial spread spectrum radio modem operates license free in the 902 - 928 MHz band.  RS232 or multidrop RS485 or RS422 serial data port modes are selected via a DIP switch.  The DB-9 serial port is software configurable from 1,200 baud to 115.2 Kbaud.  Serial data is sent over an error-protected, encrypted digital radio link (256AES encryption) using long range Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS).  Industrial I/O points (4-20 mA, Discretes, Relays) can be added using the Radio Telemetry I/O Expander.

1 Watt Serial SCADA Radio Modem

  • High Speed - 115.2 Kbps @ 900 MHz - frequency hopping spread spectrum radio modem
  • High Power - 1 Watt TX, continuous
  • Industrial Grade - -40°C to +70°C,  surge, short circuit and RF filtering on all I/O
  • Link Margin Display - front panel "bar" display shows calibrated receive link margin in dB
  • Flexible Networking - Supports point to point and point to multipoint links - radio modem delivers multidrop RS485 between 2 or more sites
  • High data security - user configurable 256 bit AES encryption
  • Long Range - up to 40 miles with 20 dB fade margin

Overview
Synetcom's 1 Watt Serial SCADA Radio Modem can be used to link SCADA devices such as PLCs.  The radio delivers transparent error-free serial data in adverse industrial environments, even with other in band interference (other nearby spread spectrum radios).

Simpler SCADA systems are easily constructed without PLC and RTU devices by connecting the 1 Watt SCADA Radio Modem to Synetcom's Radio Telemetry I/O Expander module.  The combination creates high I/O count 4-20 mA current loop, discrete and relay connections between sites without cables, PLCs (and associated PLC programming expenses).  As few as one I/O point between a pair of locations can be easily and incrementally expanded to many I/O points between many locations.  Only one 1 Watt SCADA Radio Modem is required at each site.  No programming is required.

Installation
The Serial SCADA Radio Modems are shipped factory-configured and tested. There is no field configuration necessary. Typical installation involves simply mounting and powering the units and connecting the antennas and serial ports.

Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum
The 1 Watt 900 MHz Radio Modem utilizes frequency hopping spread spectrum with advanced protocols that greatly increase the communications reliability in high noise and interference environments.

PLC and RTU Networking
Modbus interfaces are compatible with higher speed (>9,600 baud) Radio Modem versions.  Point to point or point to multipoint communication between Modbus host and field PLC or RTU remotes is supported with one serial Radio Modem at each location.

Repeaters
Radio Modem repeaters are used wherever either distance or major obstructions cause the radio signals to be weak. In large facilities, the repeater is typically located at the highest point so that coverage is obtained everywhere.  The control room only needs radio coverage to the repeater, greatly simplifying installation and guaranteeing low data latency - unlike meshed systems which can have very high latency.  The repeater consists of a pair of 1 Watt SCADA Radio modems in a null data connection.  Data is processed through the Repeater in digital form so sensor reading accuracy is never affected.

System Accessories
Synetcom offers a complete line of accessories and system enhancements including:

- Antennas and coaxial cable for short and long distance applications

- Lightning and external surge / loop isolation equipment

- NEMA plastic and metal enclosures with internal DIN rail mounts - designed to house the radio, power supply and other options

- Solar panel, battery, radio enclosure optimized for installations where AC power is not available.

Transmission Range:    Synetcom specifies a 40 mile (900 MHz 1 Watt) range that includes a 20 dB margin (if the signal fades as much as 20 dB - a factor of 1/100 - the link continues to operate). Obstructions in the line of sight path reduces range, depending on the type of obstruction.  Contact our factory for assistance.
Radio Modem Choices:
o For short range (<1000') indoor or outdoor applications, our lower cost 900 MHz serial radio modem is recommended

o If the link is obstructed or must be secure, or if long range is needed at 900 MHz, choose the 256 bit AES encrypted 1 watt 900 MHz serial data radio modem (40 miles).
